7 ways that your dog is all too human

After living side by side with humans for tens of thousands of years, dogs have become our closest animal companions. So perhaps it’s not surprising that they have developed a range of seemingly human characteristics. Do they think like us too? Gregory Berns of Emory University has tackled this question by placing dozens of dog volunteers into an fMRI brain scanner to see what’s going on in their brains in a variety of situations. Dr. Berns is a NS faculty member.

New Scientist rounds up seven traits that illustrate just how close to human our best friends are becoming:

1. Deceptive beasts

2. Moral imperative

3. Jealous guys

4. My word, what a vocab

5. Intention detectors

6. Listen up

7. Furry inferences
