Fernbank Science Center Gardens, Fall 2014
G.I.V.E. participated in our club's monthly volunteer event Fernbank Science Center (FSC) on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in the gardens/compost demonstration exhibit area. FSC is dedicated to improving STEM education for the children of the DeKalb County School District, and our volunteering helps to maintain and update the gardens and compost demonstrations and exhibits that teach sustainability, gardening methods, and many aspects of the biological sciences.
Ten graduate student volunteers showed up and helped to improve the gardens area by pulling weeds, mulching, removing invasive plants, and cleaning the exhibit signs around the compost demonstration site. The FSC Master Gardeners and staff could not thank us enough for our contribution, stating that they could not have gotten as much done without our assistance. A special thank you to all who volunteered, and hope to see you all again next time!
