Vision

To help BCDB foster a more inclusive, and more equitable environment for our students and faculty, free from discrimination, which will enhance success of graduate studies and academic careers.

Mission

The BCDB MEO committee is formed by students and faculty who will work together to create systemic change within the program (as well as in GDBBS and LGS) to generate a more inclusive, and more equitable environment that support success of all students and faculty.

Work

  • Improve student and faculty awareness of equal opportunity issues
    • Annual climate survey to adjust/set action items
    • Workshop to increase awareness of issues related to equal opportunity
  • Change policies that perpetuate systemic injustice in academia
    • Review BCDB policy to ensure that all students are considered
    • Incident report
  • Improve inclusion and support for students and faculty
    • Mentorship statement and training for new BCDB faculty appointments
    • Facilitate productive mentee/mentor interactions
    • Social event to gather and celebrate student and faculty diversity
    • Support for effective faculty hires
