Biochemistry
Biochemistry is the study of the properties and regulation of macromolecules and metabolites related to biological function. The ultimate goal of such studies is the molecular description of the cell, with details of the temporal and spatial regulation of its chemistry and interactions. BCDB faculty study pathways and processes such as the regulation of transcription and translation, secretion and vesicular traffic, signal transduction pathways, protein synthesis and degradation, and intercellular communication. Generation and analysis of large datasets relevant to health and disease is a particular strength of BCDB, with experts in RNAseq, proteomics, glycomics, lipidomics, and metabolomics in the program.
