Timeline for Emory Students Planning to Apply to the 4+1 Program

A course schedule for student interested in the Cancer Biology and Translational Oncology 4+1 Master’s program

CBTO 4+1 program may come from several different undergraduate programs. There is no one best way to arrange the courses that must be taken to satisfy the general education requirements (GERs), the student’s major, and CBTO 4+1 prerequisites and program requirements. The schedule below is one possible way to accomplish this for biology majors, but it can be easily modified to guide course selection/timing for students in other majors.

Electives not taken for the major, 4+1 program, or the GERs are not shown below. Note that not all majors have the same number of courses required as biology, but they are close. It is important to at least make a tentative plan that can be adjusted to make sure you are on track at all times.

Note that courses commonly taken for admission to professional schools (i.e., medical school) are not shown on the calendar below, but it is possible to fit them into the remaining slots.

Important note: Because our students enter the Laney Graduate School during the summer following their graduation (Spring semester of their senior year), all undergradaute courses must be completed by the end of the Spring semester. You can not take additional undergraduate courses in the College and be enrolled in the Graduate school at the same time.

Please contact us with any questions.

Key:
GER=Course satisfies a GER requirement. All students must satisfy the GERs and their major. Note that many of the courses taken for the major presented below also satisfy GER requirements. Students should always check their degree progress on OPUS.
BIO=Course satisfies a requirement of the biology major (as of fall 2014)
PRE=Course satisfies a prerequisite for the CBTO 4+1 program
4+1=Course satisfies a requirement of the CBTO 4+1 program
