Our lab seeks to elucidate the cellular and circuit mechanisms that allow subcortical descending pathways to control movement in mammals. Research questions are addressed using a multidisciplinary approach that includes single-cell calcium imaging, electrophysiology, and laser photostimulation. We use the neonatal mouse as an animal model, which enables us to combine optical and genetic technologies. Ultimately, we want to better understand how subcortical descending pathways become dysregulated and lead to motor dysfunctions after injury or neurodevelopmental disorder like autism.
