DSAC is now sponsoring subcommittees. Reach out to the subcommittee chairs to get connected on Slack:

Chair: Emily Hill (emily.jane.hill@emory.edu)

The goals of the Wellness Committee are to promote a healthy graduate student experience by providing opportunities to explore and discuss diversity, respect, mental health, and physical wellbeing in the form of group activities, seminars, training sessions, and more. We aim to be a unified source for those interested to obtain all relevant resources.

Chair: Chrissy Hartigan (chartig@emory.edu)

The goal of this committee is to create programming to engage first year students across GDBBS and enrich the first-year graduate school experience. With that, we will be working closely with Emily Neutens to host events during orientation (including a virtual panel discussion for incoming GDBBS graduate students led by the committee), a first-year mixer, and a Slack platform to connect first year students GDBBS-wide. We also want to host office hours where advanced graduate students can advise first year students on their best tips for picking a mentor. Additionally, we plan to work closely with the Office for Professional Development to put together workshops on mentorship (receiving & becoming!) for advanced graduate students. Personally, I view this committee as an opportunity to foster (and establish for myself!) connections between people in other programs and look forward to hearing what you all think we can do to enrich our graduate experiences! - Chrissy

Chair: Logan Kavanaugh (lkavan2@emory.edu)

The overall goal of this committee is to increase visibility in the scientific community by providing a platform for high publication quality figures for all GDBBS graduate students. To achieve this goal, I would like to have alternating monthly data drives and workshops. Data drives will be an open space where students can bring their raw data and/or unfinished figures and members of the committee will help with analyzing data, formatting figures, or give general advice on the overall appearance. Workshops will be hosted by members and guest lecturers where the host will be teaching a skill/program/software that can be useful for multiple GDBBS programs. No previous experience is necessary, and all are welcome. If you have a passion for pretty figures and learning new skill sets – I would love to have you as part of the team! - Logan
