Immunobiology
Research in this area covers a broad spectrum of the discipline, including the molecular regulation of gene expression, the development of immunological memory, and the mechanics of mucosal immunity.
Faculty investigate innate immunity, tumor immunology, and the immunological aspects of vaccination to understand how the body recognizes infection and maintains long-term protection. Other research interests include basic and applied studies in transplantation and autoimmunity, which integrate directly with large-scale clinical programs at the School of Medicine. Ongoing efforts also examine the effects of aging on the immune system, the development of novel vaccines for influenza, and the quality of immune responses in immunocompromised hosts.
