Pathogenesis of
Infectious Disease
This research focus centers on the fundamental events of host pathogen interactions using viral, bacterial, and protozoan model systems. Collaborative projects with the Vaccine Research Center and the CDC strengthen investigations into microbial virulence factors and the sophisticated ways pathogens evade host immune responses.
Research efforts prioritize major global health challenges, including chronic viral infections, respiratory pathogens, and vector borne diseases. Bacterial research focuses on intracellular pathogens and the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, while protozoan studies investigate the complex lifecycles of parasites. By elucidating how these diverse agents invade and persist within the host, researchers work to develop transformative vaccines and therapeutics.
