Molecular Virology

This research area involves deep investigations into the lifecycle of viruses to uncover the mechanisms of viral packaging, replication, and protein function.

Faculty explore the structure and function relationships of viral proteins to understand how they facilitate entry into host cells and coordinate the assembly of new particles. This work also examines the profound effects viruses have on cellular health, including their ability to manipulate cell cycle progression, trigger apoptosis, or induce cellular transformation. By focusing on the nuances of virus-host relationships and the drivers of viral evolution, this group provides the foundational knowledge necessary for modern drug design, the development of antiviral therapies, and the creation of broad-range viral protection strategies.
