Experiential Learning and Internships
Internships provide graduate students with the opportunity to experience the work environment at a variety of non-academic sites. Examples include organizations involved in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, technology transfer, public policy, non-profits, journalism, and government. Since graduate school is so intensive, it is often difficult to find time for such an endeavor, but it is not out of the realm of possibility for the dedicated student. The GDBBS is currently assisting those interested to find suitable internships and each request will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
The Laney Graduate School has a course, GRAD 705R (Graduate Internship Experience), that allows students to receive course credit for participation in and completion of an unpaid internship.
For anyone interested in a short internship to see if a job outside of academia would be a fit for you, please email Laney Professional Development. The office will be glad to help you pursue your interest and may be able to set up an opportunity for you to obtain hands-on experience. This is an ongoing process, so there is no deadline. However, the sooner they know of your interest, the greater the chance is for you to be able to get an internship established.
